After a NEET PG counselling round, the seat matrix can change significantly. A seat that was occupied in one round may become available because a candidate upgrades, resigns, does not join, or exits according to the rules. At the same time, some seats shown during choice filling may only be potentially available and may not actually become vacant.

Understanding this distinction is important because the NEET PG vacancy next round is not simply a list of every seat that was allotted earlier. MCC processes and publishes different categories of vacancies before the next round.

What Are Vacated Seats?

A NEET PG vacated seat generally refers to a seat that was allotted to a candidate but subsequently becomes available for further allotment because the candidate no longer retains it.

• upgrades to another seat in a subsequent round;

• resigns from the allotted seat within the permitted period;

How Vacated Seats Enter the Next Round

The process is:

1. Candidate receives a seat 

2. Seat becomes available 

3. MCC processes the vacancy

5. Eligible candidates compete through fresh choices.

For instance, during Round 1:

A candidate is allotted MD Paediatrics at College A.

The candidate opts for upgradation.

In Round 2, the candidate gets MD Paediatrics at College B.

The earlier College A seat is released and can be allotted to another eligible candidate according to the Round 2 process. MCC's bulletin states that the first-round seat is automatically cancelled upon upgradation and allotted to another eligible candidate.

For example, MCC's official PG records for the 2025 counselling cycle contain separate Virtual Vacancy Round 2, Clear Vacancy Round 2, newly added seat documents, later Round 3 vacancy documents and a final vacant-seat list for the Stray Vacancy Round.
