The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is responsible for conducting the online counselling process for the applicable All India Quota postgraduate medical seats and other seats covered under its counselling framework. MCC maintains a separate PG Medical Counselling page and publishes counselling-related notices, seat updates and other instructions.
There is an important distinction between the NMC and MCC matrices:
NMC seat matrix: Provides the postgraduate seat information associated with medical colleges and courses.
MCC counselling seat matrix: Used during MCC counselling to show seats available in a particular counselling round, along with the applicable quota, category and institute details.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) is the official regulatory body responsible for overseeing medical education in India. Candidates can use the official NMC College and Course Search
to verify whether a medical college offers a particular postgraduate course, along with its annual intake and recognition status. The NMC also publishes postgraduate seat matrices with college-wise and course-wise seat information for the relevant academic year.
Note: NMC seat information should not be confused with the counselling authority’s seat matrix, which determines the seats included in a particular counselling process or round. Candidates should check the latest MCC or respective state counselling seat matrix before filling in their choices.

The NEET PG counselling 2026 seat matrix should be used as a starting point for building and refining your choice list.
First, identify the specialties you are interested in and check how many seats exist across colleges. A branch with more seats may have options across a larger number of institutions, while a specialty with fewer seats may require a broader college preference list.
Next, shortlist colleges based on your rank, preferred specialty, location, college type and applicable eligibility conditions.
You should then check the relevant quota and category information in the latest MCC or state counselling matrix. The NMC seat matrix alone does not tell you whether a particular seat will be available under your exact counselling category.
Before locking choices, cross-check:
College
Course
Seat count
Quota
Category
Counselling authority
Current round
This is particularly important because seats can be added, withdrawn, modified or carried forward between counselling rounds.
The best use of the matrix is therefore not simply to count seats, but to understand which college-course combinations are available and then match those options with your actual counselling eligibility.
