NEET PG Case Update: Supreme Court Hearing Postponed Again

blog

NEET PG Case Overview:

On October 25, 2024, the Supreme Court continued hearing the case of Ishika Jain vs National Board of Examination (WP 583/2024), which revolves around the transparency of the NEET PG 2024 results. The case has been deferred once again, leaving medical aspirants eagerly awaiting further developments. Below are the key updates from the hearing.

Hearing on NEET PG Case Before New Supreme Court Bench

In this latest session, the case was presented before a new 2-judge bench comprising Honorable Justice JB Pardiwala and Honorable Justice Manoj Mishra. Discussions primarily focused on the publication of the NEET PG answer key based on earlier rulings (sections 34.1 and 34.2), but broader concerns raised by the petitioners, such as a lack of transparency and SOPs, were mentioned briefly.

Minimal Discussions on NEET PG Result Transparency Issues

One of the main concerns in the NEET PG case is the lack of clear SOPs for the examination, the absence of an information bulletin, and the ongoing delays in NEET PG counselling. Petitioners’ advocates also highlighted the need for proper directions from the authorities and how accountability is being bounced between the National Board of Examinations (NBE) and the Union of India (UoI).

NEET PG Counselling Delays as Union of India Fails to Appear

While the NBE was present in court, the UoI failed to make an appearance despite submitting an affidavit. The Supreme Court had to call an available advocate to respond on behalf of the Union of India. This has only added to the NEET PG counselling delays, exacerbating the frustration of medical aspirants who are still awaiting clear directions.

Next Hearing Scheduled on Non-Miscellaneous Day (NMD)

The court has scheduled the next hearing for a Non-Miscellaneous Day (NMD), which could fall on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, these are the days when fresh matters are not heard.

No Interim Orders in NEET PG Case

In an interesting turn, the advocate for the NBE asked about an “interim order,” but the judges confirmed that no such order has been issued. This leaves open questions about why this inquiry was raised and its potential significance for the NEET PG case.

NEET PG Aspirants Urged to Stay Updated on Counselling

As NEET PG counselling continues to face delays, students are urged to stay informed about the next steps, especially regarding any notifications from the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The resolution of this case could significantly impact the timeline and fairness of NEET PG 2024 counselling.
